Illustration can shape the world we live in. Highly visible, whilst being invisible. It influences our surroundings by bringing something unique or unusual to our eyes.

Illustration is visual imagery that is best known for decorating, explaining and/or illuminating the world around us. Websites and apps use illustrations in their icons and pages to make them feel more approachable, they can be a visual guide from A to B, a character on a cereal box, or wallpaper on a wall.

Handcrafted and Human

It can convey information, statistics and advice, whilst at the same time being stunning and emotional. Illustration goes back to the early cave paintings and ancient Egypt, evolving through the centuries to the present day. Photography and video is a dominate presence in the digital age, but illustration can provide the handcrafted touch.

Use of Illustration is very wide ranging, some of which you may never notice. It is perhaps best known from an early age as the pictures in books and later in magazines. No matter how subtle, illustrations often feature on packaging to help products stand out on the shelves. Concept illustrators will imagine the visual ideas for characters, or entire worlds for video games and films. It can add personality to a simple object and let us express ourselves. The digital world can often feel impersonal, illustration, especially when hand drawn, adds a human touch.
