Lancashire Police Crime Commissioner
Design and build of an online training platform for LPCC
The Client
The Lancashire Police and Crime Comissioner’s office are responsible for holding the Lancashire Constabulary to account, setting Lancashire’s policing priorities and ensuring a safe and effective police service for the county.
As part of this work the LPCC generates and supports campaigns like No Excuse for Abuse to raise awareness of domestic abuse and ensure help is readily accessible to those who need and seek it out.
Project Overview
Heckford was asked to design and build a new digital training platform for #NailDomesticAbuse. This initiative aims to empower salon workers, who often build trusted relationships with clients, to spot the signs of abuse in a sensitive way and provide information on available resources. Participants can also display campaign materials within their premises to raise awareness of the #NailDomesticAbuse campaign.
Working within the campaign’s existing brand identity, we created a user-friendly website that delivers a complete online learning experience—from registration through to certification—while remaining fully integrated within noexcuseforabuse.co.uk.
The final site includes:
- An introduction and onboarding section
- User registration for the online course
- A structured, multi-stage online training course
- Automatic certificate generation upon completion
- An information bank signposting users to domestic abuse charities, services, and specialist organisations signposting users to domestic abuse charities, services, and specialist organisations
All components were built within the existing WordPress + Elementor setup to ensure a seamless fit with the original website.
Supporting a Key Priority in Lancashire

The Challenge
The Project required us to:
Work within an existing brand using provided assets
The #NailDomesticAbuse campaign already had strong branding and established assets. We needed to reflect this identity, maintain consistency with the main site, and keep accessibility at the forefront.
Build a training platform inside an existing WordPress environment
The No Excuse for Abuse website was already built using Elementor, so any new designs and functionality had to be compatible with this flexible but sometimes restrictive page-builder framework.
Deliver a clear and simple user journey
Users needed to move through the process – from introduction to registration, and lessons to final certification – without confusion. Domestic abuse training must be handled sensitively, so clarity and ease of navigation were essential.
Provide a reliable certification system
Upon completing the course, users needed to be able to instantly generate a personalised certificate, accessible for download or printing.
Our Approach
Adapting the campaign branding
We took the brand’s existing style: colour palette, typograpy, photography and imagery and iconography. This was translated into a layout suitable ofr a digital raining environment and information provider while staying tru to the established identity.
Working with Elementor to maintain continuity
Since the site had to live inside noexcuseforabuse.co.uk, we designed all components to work smoothly within Elementor, adapting layouts and custom functionality so they behaved consistently across different devices. This ensured the new training platform felt like a natural extension of the existing site rather than a bolt-on.
Course content
Across the different stages of the course, a variety of content formats needed to be supported and styled consistently. From text-based sections and dropdown menus to embedded videos, each element had to be presented clearly and function smoothly. Every module also concluded with a short knowledge check, so it was essential that all content types were easy to navigate, accessible, and intuitive for learners.
Building the certificate generator
The certificate system captures the user’s name and completion data, generating a branded, ready-to-download certificate. This feature supports the campaign’s goal of encouraging wider participation and acknowledging the importance of domestic abuse awareness training.
The Result
The finished website provides Lancashire residents and professionals with a simple, engaging way to learn about #NailDomesticAbuse and the signs that someone may be at risk. The training platform is now live and accessible through the existing No Excuse for Abuse website, allowing the campaign to reach a wide audience.
