Nuvia
Illustration, creative and graphic design for educational resources
The Client
Nuvia, a leading specialist in nuclear engineering and environmental services, is committed to inspiring the next generation through its active involvement in schools and community education programmes. As part of their outreach programme, Nuvia’s teams regularly visit primary and secondary education settings to help young people understand how nuclear energy is generated, the role it plays in the UK and the importance of safety and sustainability within the industry.
The Brief
To support these sessions, Nuvia required engaging, child-friendly resources that would make complex topics accessible and enjoyable, helping students learn through play and creativity. Heckford were commissioned to design and produce a suite of bespoke educational materials that could be used during school visits, exhibitions and wider outreach activities.
Our Role
We delivered three key projects for Nuvia, providing full artwork creation, design, and high-quality print production:
Project 1: Nucleopoly Board Game
Our first brief was to design a game board and cards for Nucleopoly – a nuclear-themed take on the classic Monopoly format. The aim was to introduce young learners to nuclear generation processes, roles within the industry and key terminology in an engaging and memorable way.
Our work included:
Full artwork design for the game board
Bespoke illustrations and themed branding
Custom money and token designs
Development and layout of all game cards and supporting materials
Complete print production and finishing
The result was a professional, fully branded board game that Nuvia could take into schools and use as a hands-on learning tool during their STEM workshops.

Project 2: Cluedo-Style Mystery Game
Building on the success of Nucleopoly, Nuvia created a second board game inspired by the well-known Cluedo format. This version encouraged players to explore nuclear safety, problem-solving and teamwork within a fictional scenario.
We produced:
Full board artwork and game component styling
Custom card sets and supporting graphics
Complete print production and finishing
The game format allowed students to engage with the subject matter in a narrative, investigative way, reinforcing key learning outcomes through play.

Project 3: Activity and Colouring Book
To complement the games, we were tasked with creating a versatile activity and colouring book that Nuvia could distribute during school visits and events. Designed for younger audiences, the book included:
Original illustrations
Puzzles and educational activities
Colouring pages themed around nuclear energy and safety
Accessible explanations of key concepts
We handled the full artwork design, layout, and production, ensuring the final book was durable, visually appealing, and suitable for classroom use.
