Graphic Design – Is it art or is it a craft? Either way its a skill that’s as old as mankind itself – dating back beyond written language to prehistoric cave paintings and the human desire to communicate through the use of images. The word Graphic comes from Latin/Ancient Greek Grafikos (belonging to painting or drawing).
The term – Graphic Design – probably originated in the 1920s’ print industry and in todays interactive digital age can cover a wide range of activities including logo creation, advertising, digital layouts and yes, design for the printed page.
Emotional Design
As graphic designers, its crucial that we strike the right note with the end user from their first glance—hence graphic design is often referred to as emotional design.
At Heckford, we apply our emotional design skills to every client brief, large or small.
Therefore, we will always discuss with our clients their thoughts and ideas on any project in order to glean as much information as possible about their requirements. Afterwards, based on factors such as colour choices, typography, photographic images and visual layout, we design our concept visuals with an aesthetic that hopefully matches the clients’ and end users’ expectations.
The graphics team here at Heckford studio work on a huge and varied range of design projects from logo creation to signage visualisation, advertising and print projects to vehicle wraps. And with client sectors as diverse as homebuilders, colleges or local authorities each day brings new and exciting challenges – to paraphrase Forrest Gump “we never know what we’re gonna get” and we love it that way.
